1. James Bannatyne married Mary Stewart

1.1. Ninian Bannatyne (1772), fishery inspector and shipowner, was the son of James Bannatyne and Mary Stewart. He married Ann Bannatyne.

1.1.1. Mary Bannatyne (b.1801) was the daughter of Ninian Bannatyne, shipowner. She married Neil Jamieson, provost of Rothesay, Bute.

1.1.1.1. Ann Jamieson (b.c.1823-1901) was the daughter of Neil Jamieson, provost. She married her relative 1.2.1. Alexander Mackinlay Bannatyne.

1.1.1.2. Ninian Jamieson (1829-1857) was the son of Neil Jamieson, provost. He was a Free Church minister.

1.1.2. Ninian Bannatyne (1802-1874) was the son of Ninian Bannatyne, shipowner. He was a Free Church minister.

1.1.3. Robert Bannatyne (1806- probably 1888) was the son of Ninian Bannatyne, fishery inspector. He was an Officer of Fisheries, at one time in Lerwick, where he had family by his wife, Eliza C. G. Umphray

1.1.3.1. Margaret Jane Bannatyne (1845-1909) was the daughter of Robert Bannatyne, Officer of Fisheries. She married Angus MacIver, a Free Church minister.

1.1.4. Archibald Bannatyne (1810-1863) was the son of Ninian Bannatyne, fishery inspector. He was a Free Church minister.

1.1.4.1. Colin Archibald Bannatyne (1849-1920) was the son of Archibald Bannatye, minister. He also was a Free Church minister.

1.1.5. John Bannatyne (1811-1875) was the son of Ninian Bannatyne, fishery inspector. He seems to have married Margaret Spence, who died in 1909. For her, Colin Archibald Bannatyne and Angus MacIver ministers were trustees (see Lerwick Sheriff Court, Warrants of register of deeds. NRS SC12/50/1909/11)

1.2. Robert Bannatyne (1780), fishery inspector, was the son of James Bannatyne and Mary Stewart.

1.2.1. Alexander Mackinlay Bannatyne (1817-1899) was the son of Robert Bannatyne, fishery inspector. He was a Free Church minister. He married his relative 1.1.1.1. Ann Jamieson.
